Imposition

Step-and-repeat imposition for business cards, flyers and labels

PrintFiles is step and repeat imposition software: each page of your PDF fills its own SRA3, A3 or 12 × 18 in sheets at its real size, with the up-count, sheets and waste shown before a page is written. When a file is the wrong size, set the finished size and fit, fill or force the artwork to it.

Files are processed in your browser and never uploaded.

What the step-and-repeat imposition tool does

  • Step and repeat: each page fills its own sheets and is never mixed with another page
  • Gang runs when you want them: same-size pages on shared sheets, or every size in guillotine strips
  • Set the finished size, then fit the artwork inside it, fill and crop, or force it to exactly the size
  • Artwork bigger than the sheet placed centred, with the part that will not print shown dimmed in the preview
  • Both sides from one PDF — alternating pages, all fronts then all backs, one shared back, or pairs you choose — or from two PDFs
  • Single or double cut, gutters worked out from the bleed
  • Crop and registration marks in the margins only, never on the artwork
  • A CMYK colour control strip on the gripper edge: solids, 50 % tints, overprints and grey balance
  • SRA3, SRA3+, A3, A4, 12 × 18 in and custom sheet sizes

Why print shops use it

Minutes, not an afternoon
No InDesign template to build for every job: upload the artwork, pick the sheet and download the imposed PDF.
Wrong-sized files still print
Set the size you need and fit, fill or force the artwork to it; anything enlarged, stretched or cut off is flagged before you print.
Backs behind their fronts
Pair any page with any back, and the duplex flip is worked out for long- and short-edge presses so every back lands behind its front.

Who it is for

  • Digital print shops running business cards and flyers on SRA3
  • Label and sticker printers ganging several jobs when it pays
  • Copy shops printing tickets, vouchers and loyalty cards

The problems it removes

  • Imposing by hand in InDesign takes half an hour per job and one wrong gutter wastes a sheet run.
  • A customer file a few millimetres off size that the imposition tool simply refuses.
  • Back pages that do not line up with their fronts after a duplex flip.

Instead of imposing in InDesign, Acrobat or Kodak Preps

Kodak Preps and Fiery Impose are built for production workflows and priced for them; imposing in InDesign or Acrobat means rebuilding a layout for every job. PrintFiles covers the everyday digital work — step and repeat at real size, fitting a wrong-sized file, gang runs when you want them, duplex and marks — in the browser, with nothing to install.

Step-and-repeat imposition: questions

Does it scale my artwork?
Only when you ask. By default every page is placed at its real size. Turn on Fit artwork to fit it inside a size, fill and crop, or force it to exactly the size; anything enlarged, stretched or cut off is flagged.
Will it mix different pages on one sheet?
Not unless you choose to. Each page fills its own sheets by default. Same-size pages can share sheets (a gang run), or every size can go on the same sheets in strips a guillotine can cut.
What if my file is bigger than the sheet?
It is placed centred, one per sheet, and the part outside the sheet is shown dimmed in the preview, so you see exactly what will not print. Fit artwork scales it to the sheet instead.
Can I print both sides from one PDF?
Yes: front, back, front, back; all fronts then all backs; one back for every front; or you pick each pair. Two separate PDFs work too.
Which sheet sizes can I use?
SRA3 (320 × 450 mm), SRA3+, A3, A4, 12 × 18 in, or any custom size in millimetres.
Does the PDF leave my computer?
No. Imposition runs in your browser; only your account and licence live on our servers.
